It does happen!
The correct strategy in Super Double Double Bonus Poker when dealt three Jacks, Queens, or Kings, along with a potential Jack, Queen, King, or Ace kicker is to hold the Three of a Kind, along with the kicker. This also applies if dealt a Full House: break the pair and only hold one of the kickers.
In Super Double Double Bonus Poker, four Jacks, Queens, or Kings is pays a somewhat measly 250 credits without a kicker. With the kicker, this jumps to 800 credits. Holding the kicker does not apply when dealt three 2s, 3s, and 4s, which each pay 400 credits without a kicker and jump to 800 credits with an Ace, 2, 3, or 4 kicker. The opportunity to get four 2s, 3s, or 4s with only the possibility of drawing another kicker outweighs holding a dealt kicker.
It's hard to stomach lowering your chances of getting any Four of a Kind, but when you do win, it feels really good. With this hold, you cut your chances of getting the Four of a Kind in half. However, the prize is more than doubled, and you also have a 3 in 47 chance of completing a Full House.
With three Aces dealt, on the other hand, kickers should not be held. Aces get a jump with a 2, 3, 4, Jack, Queen or King. Half of your Four Aces wins will have a kicker, paying 2000 (with a 2, 3, or 4), or 1600 (with a Jack, Queen, or King).
As you may have observed from the picture I was playing Multi Strike Poker, and completed the hand on a 1x line. Multi Strike goes up to 8x (or 40x with a 5x Super Times Pay). Bummer, man.
